What are user configurations?
User configurations allow account owners to create standardized sets of automations and event filters that can be applied to multiple users at once.
This feature helps firms create consistent workflows across users—like standardizing note templates and preventing individual users from modifying critical automations.
What are the benefits of applying user configurations?
Bulk Application: Apply configurations to users en masse rather than individually
Standardization: Ensure consistent note formats and automation rules across your organization
Control: Toggle whether settings are controlled at the account level or user level
Flexibility: Create different profiles for different user roles (e.g., "Advisor," "Compliance Officer")
What are the configuration types?
There are two types of user configurations that you can apply to your account:
Global: Apply to all current & future users in the account, with the option to apply to child accounts as well
Manual: Apply only to manually selected users
How to set up and manage user configurations
Account owners can access user configurations by going to Account settings > User configurations.
Click on the + New configuration button to create a new one, or manage existing configurations from the list.
Creating a new user configuration
Click the + New configuration button.
In the pop-up window that appears, select either Global (all users) or Manual (selected users) for the new user configuration you want to create, then click Confirm.
In the next window, give the user configuration a descriptive name, then click Create.
Note: There can only be one Global user configuration on an account, since it applies to all users. If one already exists, you will only be able to create new Manual user configurations.
Setting up the new user configuration
Find the newly-created user configuration in the list and click on the editing icon on the far right-hand side.
In the new window that opens, you can adjust:
Automations
Event filters
Description for the configuration
Inheritance rules
Users it applies to
Note: If you simply want to adjust the users that the configuration applies to (Manual only), click the editing icon in the Users column. This will open a pop-up window where you can select/unselect which users have the configuration. This column also gives you a count of how many users are currently under the configuration.
Setting up Automations:
Within the Automations tab, you can define which automations users will have. This allows you to create and manage a standardized note template and post-meeting actions for multiple (or all) users on your account.
If you already have an automation(s) on your profile (User settings > Automations) that you would like all users on the account to have, you can use this as an example when creating Automations for the user configuration.
For more information on how to set up automations, read this guide: "How to set up automations.”
Setting up Event filters:
Event filters control which calendar events the Jump notetaker attends and captures. The Event filters tab in user configurations allow you to set them for all users on your account without needing everyone to set them up individually.
Here’s a guide that walks you through this process: “How to filter events in my Upcoming tab.”
Setting the Description:
In the Description field, you can provide a quick explanation of the user configuration. This is an optional step, though a detailed description can make it easier for you to properly apply the configuration to new users in the future.
Click into the current description to update it or make edits as needed.
Setting Inheritance rules (only on Global configurations):
If you’re the owner of a parent account with child accounts, you have the option to toggle on the Inheritance setting.
This will apply the configuration to all users on child accounts, as well as your own account. This setting is only available to Global configurations, not manual.
Modifying users:
On Manual configurations, you can use the Users tile to specify which users on your account the configuration should apply to. You will not have this option on Global configurations, which are applied to all users on the account by default.
Click on the Modify users button to open a window with a list of users on your account. Click the box next to each user that you would like to have this configuration, then click Save & close.
Determine the configuration strategy
For the Automations and Event filters in a user configuration, the dropdown in the top right-hand corner will determine how they are applied to user profiles.
Click on the dropdown to view and select from the three options.
Here’s a bit more information about the three strategies:
Merge user settings: This will combine the users’ existing automations and event filters with the configuration settings.
Override user settings: This will replace the users’ existing automations and event filters settings with the configuration settings.
Use user settings if available: This will use any existing automations and event filters the user already has on their profile; otherwise, the configuration settings will be applied to their profile.
Note: If users are assigned to more than one user configuration, any global configuration settings will take precedence over others.
What do users see?
When a user configuration affects a user's settings, they will see:
Clear indicators showing which automations/event filters are controlled by their account
Information cards explaining they cannot modify account-controlled settings
How do user configurations impact new user onboarding?
During onboarding:
If there is a user configuration with the Override user settings strategy, it won’t allow the new user to add any new event filters.
If there is a user configuration with the Merge user settings or Use user settings if available strategy, the new user can add their own event filters in User settings along with account-set event filters.
